Shaq Retires

After 19 seasons, Diesel is calling it quits. He’s 39 now, and he’s spent the past 4 seasons as a ring-chasing journeyman, most recently for the Celtics. Until he ended up in Cleveland, he always played places with nice weather (Orlando, LA, Miami and Phoenix). He was out most of this past season with an achilles injury, and it was crazy to watch age catch up to someone who was so dominant. Everybody gets old, that’s just the reality of the situation. Although Shaq used his size and strength to overpower opponents, he was actually very skilled. It used to piss me off when people would attribute his success to his size because he’s an amazing athlete for his size. I doubt the NBA will ever see a dude 7’1″ 325 lbs pull off spin-moves or lead a break like Shaq. People questioned his defense, so he went out and won Defensive Player of the Year and made the All-Defensive Team three times. All in all, Shaq was Rookie of the Year in ’92-93, MVP in ’99-00, Finals MVP three times, a 15-time All-Star, All-Star Game MVP three times, a two-time scoring champion and a 14-time Al-NBA selection. He’s one of only three players in NBA history to win All-Star Game MVP, regular season MVP and Finals MVP in the same season. The other two are Willis Reed and MJ, who did it in ’96 and ’98. Shaq is currently 5th all-time in points and field goals, 12th in rebounds and 7th in blocks. Oh yeah, he also has 4 rings. That’s a pretty good goddamn career.

Can remember bangin’ this track in 4th grade. Shaq Fu Da Return was actually the first hip-hop album I purchased. *facepalm* His first album did go platinum though….

Easily his best song.
