1994: The Very First Rookie Game

While we’re talking about “Rising Stars,” the first Rookie Challenge went down in 1994, featuring dudes you might recognize like Chris Webber; Jamal Mashburn; Nick Van Exel; J.R. (Isaiah) Rider; Sam Cassell; Dino Radja and Penny Hardaway. A young, skinny Penny took home MVP honors scoring 22 points on 8-9 shooting. I can remember wanting to be a point guard like Penny, but realizing I loved shooting the ball too much. Still had pretty good court vision though.

Randomly, I can remember anunciating the shit out of “Schick” when I was a kid, then trying to say it quickly to get away with saying “shit.” I know, file it under shit little kids do.
